If you are ever in Colorado Springs, a visit to their local zoo is a must.
It is a zoo unlike any other I have seen. First of all, it is built on the side of the mountain. Literally. If you are not a fan of walking uphill, there is a ski-lift that will take you directly to the top. Then you can walk down to see the animals (which is much easier on the legs).
Then, they have an incredible giraffe exhibit that puts you at eye level with the giraffes--and you can hand feed them these little cracker things.
We didn't see the whole zoo, mainly because lightening was coming towards us--quickly. Somehow, being up on the same altitude of the storm clouds makes them even more threatening. Oh, and it started raining super, super hard!
The view from almost the top of the zoo.

One last photo as we are racing down the mountain
Next time we will try to come back on a day we are not fearing for our lives!

Yay we love seeing your trip with you! Can't wait until you make it to WA.
