Take Me To The River

It's 6:00 a.m. and we're back on the road. We've had a beautiful visit in a beautiful place.  But, alas it is time for us to depart lovely Halfway and work our way south.  This time, we are taking the Scenic Hell's Canyon Byway, which takes us out of Halfway and down to the Snake River.

Hey--a cute little deer family up early just like we are.

The road winds its way down to the Snake River and into Hell's Canyon.  In the canyon, the river is dammed by the Oxbow and Brownlee Dams creating  the Brownlee Reservoir.  What a picturesque area!  This is one of my all time favorite drives.  Here is why:

This is the Brownlee Dam.  Eric's Uncle Bill worked on the dam when it was being built in the 1950's.  One of Uncle Bill's favorite stories to tell is about the time he fell from the dam and slid down the chute, breaking his leg.   That looks like a pretty scary fall to me!

After an eight hour drive, we're back in Salt Lake City!
